The new all-electric BMW i3 will enter production at BMW Group Plant Munich in August 2026, with first UK customer deliveries scheduled for autumn.
Built as the second model of the Neue Klasse, the BMW i3 represents a significant step forward in the evolution of the BMW 3 Series, which has defined the brand for five decades.

The model introduces a new generation of in-house developed digital architecture, combining four high-performance computers to manage driving, automated functions, infotainment and comfort systems.

This system, known as the Heart of Joy superbrain, delivers up to 20 times more processing power than previous BMW models and oversees all driving functions to enhance precision and control.
The BMW i3 50 xDrive launches as the first variant, featuring dual electric motors driving both axles with a combined output of 469 hp and 645 Nm of torque.
Using sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology, the vehicle integrates highly efficient electric motors, 800-volt architecture and high-voltage batteries with cylindrical cells.

This enables a WLTP range of up to 900 km on a single charge, alongside rapid charging capability of up to 400 kW at compatible DC stations.

Under these conditions, the BMW i3 can achieve up to 400 km of range in 10 minutes.
The exterior design presents a modern interpretation of the BMW saloon, defined by a 2.5-box silhouette, long wheelbase and short overhangs.
A sloping roofline and large glass surfaces contribute to interior light, while the front end features a shark-nose design centred around a horizontal kidney grille and integrated headlight signature.

Pronounced wheel arches, flush door handles and sculpted lines define the side profile, leading to a rear design with horizontal L-shaped taillights extending into the shoulder area.

Eleven exterior paint finishes are available, including M Le Castellet Blue, which is exclusive to the BMW i3.
Inside, the all-electric platform enables a spacious cabin layout with a driver-focused cockpit.
The BMW Panoramic iDrive system combines a Panoramic Vision display, optional 3D Head-Up Display, Central Display and a multi-function steering wheel.
Sustainable materials are used throughout the interior, including Econeer seat covers made from 100 per cent recycled polyester.

Multiple trim levels will be offered, including M Sport, allowing further personalisation.

Driver assistance and parking systems are integrated to operate alongside the driver, with features such as Soft-Stop delivering smoother stopping performance.
BMW states that a holistic sustainability approach has been applied across the vehicle’s lifecycle, from development to production and use.
Depending on usage and energy source, the carbon footprint can align with a comparable combustion model after one to two years.
BMW Group Plant Munich, which has undergone extensive modernisation, will transition to exclusively producing fully electric Neue Klasse models from 2027.
