Hot off the announcement that Red Bull’s Adrian Newey was leaving Christian Horner behind after a tempting £30million offer from Lawrence Stroll to join Aston Martin, it appears one driver has seemingly got cold feet over his future with the team.
Iconic designer Newey will join Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team from March 1, 2025, taking the reins as Managing Technical Partner at their Silverstone HQ. “I am thrilled to be joining,” he told the media. “I have been hugely inspired and impressed by the passion and commitment that Lawrence brings to everything he is involved with.”

Now it appears to be all change at Aston Martin, with one of its key members teasing their dramatic exit. Reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne, who also competes in Formula E where he won the 2021-2022 championship, has admitted he might be leaving the team.
“I mean, you know, I’ve been with Aston Martin now for the past two years,” he told GPFans.com. “I’m realistic that my future is probably not here, but you got to keep the doors open, you never know what is happening.
“It’s the Formula 1 paddock moves at the fastest pace, you know, and one week, something seems unlikely and the next week something is likely because you never, you just never know. And all I can do is race as competitive as I can in the series I’m racing, try and do a good job there, and then the rest will follow up.”

It didn’t distract Lawrence, who was thrilled as he announced Adrian’s appointment. “This is huge news. Adrian is the best in the world at what he does – he is at the top of his game – and I am incredibly proud that he is joining the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team.
“It’s the biggest story since the Aston Martin name returned to the sport and another demonstration of our ambition to build a Formula One team capable of fighting for world championships. As soon as Adrian became available, we knew we had to make it happen.”
