Petrolheads might want to start checking their savings, because the dream of owning a prancing horse is suddenly looking far less out of reach.
That is the eye-opening claim from YouTuber Seen Through Glass, who has been putting a used Ferrari California through its paces to see whether the £50,000 entry point really is as tempting as it sounds.

Filming at specialist dealer Hilton & Moss, he described the car as “the often overlooked and unloved modern Ferrari,” while pointing out just how dramatically values have shifted in recent years.

He explained that buyers in the UK can now pick one up for roughly the same price as a hot hatch, saying: “Did you know here in the UK you can now buy one of these cars for the same price as a Golf R? Yep. This is now a 50 grand Ferrari.”
Inside, the particular example featured an eye-catching specification dominated by red leather trim, carbon fibre details and a carbon fibre steering wheel, which he praised while admitting the bold colour might not suit everyone.

The video also explored the California’s engineering highlights, including its dual-clutch transmission and retractable hardtop, both of which helped position the model as a more usable grand tourer when new.
However, the surprisingly low price was a key talking point, with the YouTuber noting that unusually affordable prestige cars often come with underlying reasons.
He therefore set out to examine common ownership considerations, including potential maintenance costs and reliability concerns that prospective buyers should factor into their budgets.
Ultimately, the test drive focused on whether someone with a modest performance-car budget could realistically step into Ferrari ownership, while acknowledging the model’s divisive reputation among enthusiasts.
