Audi’s latest RS model introduces a modular electrified powertrain that combines a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 with a 130 kW electric motor, marking the brand’s first high-performance plug-in hybrid system.

The new drivetrain delivers 375 kW (510 PS) from the combustion engine while integrating a hybridised eight-speed gearbox and a newly developed rear transaxle.

At the centre of the system is a completely new quattro setup with Dynamic Torque Control and electro-mechanical torque vectoring at the rear, described as a world first for a production car.

The rear differential can shift torque between the wheels within milliseconds, with a control unit recalculating distribution every five milliseconds to optimise traction and agility.

Bespoke RS sport suspension with twin-valve shock absorbers works alongside RS-specific front and rear axles, RS-tuned steering, and 20- or 21-inch wheels fitted with tailored tyres.

The twin-valve damper technology allows the suspension to balance ride comfort with high-performance handling while reducing pitch and roll movements.

The body sits around 90 mm wider than the standard A5 at both axles, featuring flared arches, a honeycomb Singleframe grille, Air Curtains, and a rear diffuser with matte oval RS exhaust tailpipes.

Darkened Matrix LED headlights with a checkered-flag daytime running light signature further distinguish the exterior design.

An optional Audi Sport package adds revised bumpers, two-tone 21-inch wheels, an RS sport exhaust system, and raises the top speed to 177 mph.

Interior upgrades in the package include Serpentine green contrast stitching, alongside additional customisation options such as Bedford green metallic paint and carbon camouflage trim.

The standard Audi driving experience function displays route data on a 14.5-inch MMI touchscreen and can record sector times when used on track.

Using the RS torque rear drive mode also enables performance metrics including drift angle analysis.

“The A5 model series’ new pinnace is our first high-performance plug-in hybrid. Our newly developed quattro drivetrain with Dynamic Torque Control is the world’s first electro-mechanical torque vectoring system in a production car,” says Gernot Döllner, CEO of Audi.

“The sophisticated technical interplay between combustion engine and electric power brings performance and efficiency together in a new way at Audi. Customers can experience both peak sportiness and every-day comfort.”

“The RS 5 and its innovative drive concept mark the beginning of a new era for our RS models,” adds Rolf Michl, Managing Director of Audi Sport.

“They bring a new level of dynamics to the driving characteristics our customers love and further improve day-to-day use value thanks to all-electric driving and innovative technologies. A new interpretation of the true RS experience.”

Production takes place in Neckarsulm, with European order books opening in the first quarter of 2026 and first deliveries scheduled for summer 2026.
