Mat Armstrong has addressed concerns over a suspected gearbox issue on his Bugatti Chiron project, following viewer speculation from his latest video.
The update, shared on his second channel, focused on investigating reports of a potential hairline crack in the gearbox casing.

Viewers had flagged the issue after spotting a possible defect in high-resolution footage, with Armstrong confirming the original Copart listing did reference a “hairline crack”.

Initial assumptions suggested the damage related to a gearbox mount rather than the casing itself, prompting further inspection before continuing work.
The car had not yet been lifted on a ramp, making the gearbox area difficult to assess in detail prior to this check.
Once raised, attention turned to the area near the solenoids where the suspected crack had been identified by viewers.

After cleaning the surface, Armstrong determined the marking was residue rather than structural damage, ruling out a crack.

He noted that missing a genuine fault could have required the entire car to be stripped again, significantly affecting the project timeline.
Further inspection showed no signs of fluid leakage, and the surrounding billet aluminium components appeared intact.

Armstrong also explained that previous engine movement had placed pressure on nearby components, which may have contributed to the visual concern.
With no structural issue confirmed, work on the Chiron can continue without major mechanical revision.
